We took a walking tour of several places
important in Ajax lore. Bad weather kept us from hitting all the spots,
but we got the highlights.

Starting out.

This is an underpass where Johan Cruyff (Ajax great of the 70s)
played growing up. They say he got to be so good from having played in
such small spaces.

Cruyff's first house in the bunker-like "Concrete Village" where many Ajax
players of the 1970s grew up.

Cruyff's second house in the Concrete Village. He lived here with his
mother from five years old on, including when he played in his first
European Cup final at age 21. Can you imagine Allen Iverson living in a
place like this with his mom?

The site of Ajax's old stadium, the De Meer, which has since been
destroyed and converted into apartments.

A monument at the site of the old center circle of the De Meer.

Another stadium Ajax used to play in, the Olympic Stadium. |
